Responsible Travel launches WhatsApp for Customer Service (and why we won’t be turning to AI)

Ever wondered whether the person at the end of your inquiry is real? At Responsible Travel, our customers can now message us on WhatsApp. But rest assured, we’re not palming you off to an automated service. Quite the opposite. It’s another way for you to chat about your vacation plans with us – human to human.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) might be getting more and more sophisticated and more companies may be handing over inquiries and other services to bots, but at Responsible Travel you’ll always get hold of a real person. Here’s why...

Our new WhatsApp messaging service – helping you speak person to person

AI bots are clever, but they only know what they’ve been programmed to learn. So, while they might have the answers to some frequently asked questions, they’re unlikely to be able to help with your more unique inquiries.

We think an FAQ page is really useful – which is why ours is prominently displayed on our contact page. But it doesn't replace the ability to talk to us. That’s why we’ve introduced our new WhatsApp messaging service – so you have another way to get in touch with our Travel Team easily.

When you do call us, there are no multiple-choice hoops to jump through, and no crackly tunes on loop while you queue. You’ll get straight through to our Travel Team - who are just as happy to chat about your last trip as help you book your next one. They have no targets or incentives on the number of calls or bookings to achieve each day, so you’ve all the time in the world to talk through your vacation options with them. They’re the beating heart of our company and something we would never consider outsourcing.

Customer service in travel doesn’t have to be frustrating

When you email us, we aim to respond within 24 hours, use plain English, and ensure every reply is highly personal to you. Why? The travel sector had a bad reputation for customer service even before bots were introduced – we all have stories of being unable to get through to airlines when flights are cancelled or delayed. Getting in touch about your vacation should be simple.

We value our Travel Team

We’ll be honest, we don’t believe in 24/7 access or asking our team to work antisocial shifts – it means they love what they do and they’re always happy to help you. Most of our team are based in the UK, and they work normal office hours (9am-6pm) with a few hours on a Saturday so that you can have a more relaxed chat without having to rush back to your desk. But if you call outside of our hours, you can leave us a message and we’ll call you back.

Vacations are an important part of our lives. So when it comes to planning your perfect trip, we think it’s good to talk to someone who understands that, and is genuinely passionate about travel, too. No matter how advanced, an AI bot will never replace that human connection.
